Virginia mullet biting early springtime on March 19th, just off Bald Head Island the first few fish seemed to be small, but as time went on fish became decent size. The weather was ideal light south wind, with climbing temperatures. Lots of boats out fishing that day.

Rods and Tackle

My favorite fishing rod for Virginia mullet  7′ rod sold by “The Reel Outdoors” out of Emerald Isle, N.C. TRO817S70 8-17 lb test line. Penn Fierce 11 3000 spinning reel is the perfect size for these fish. A standard double bottom hook rig made of 30 lb. test Ande line. Hooks are Eagle Claw Lazer Sharp, 2X Long SZ #4. Lead Sinker 2 oz. to 3 oz.

Family Charter

Charter was a family outing with husband, wife two small boys these are the charters that I enjoy working with the children, helping them learn to fish and enjoy the water. Virginia Mullet is also known as whiting around Carolina Beach, N, C.

Finding Fish and Bait

Look for a water depth around 17′ to 25′ preferably near a drop or ledge. Anchor up not to be close to other boats. Dropdown with the freshest shrimp you can find, because fresh shrimp does make a difference in the bite.

Virginia Mullet Biting

Virginia Mullet bite in the early springtime this is the ideal time for a charter for young and beginning fishermen. The Virginia mullet bite can be pretty steady at times this is ideal for a young angler. Keeping a child busy catching fish keeps their interest up, spirits high. Most of us are ready to do some fishing after a long winter, Virginia Mullet biting in the early springtime is a great day on the water for the young and old fishermen.

Quality of Fish

Virginia Mullet makes for some mighty tasty eating also, these fish are best fried up brown and crispy.
