Southport Backwater Fishing

Red drum bite happened at the first stop today Shawn Riley from Tennessee landed a couple of red drum first thing this morning, live bait on Carolina rigs did the trick. I was really happy for Shawn glad to see him land his first red drum fishing with the Cape Fear Guide. Today was really a beautiful day to be out on the water wind was light with clear skies making for just a pleasant day of fishing. I have been fishing almost every day now for two weeks if you are calling during the day, I have probably missed your call so just give me a call after 5:00 pm I should be home, and able to book your charter.

Southport inshore fishing charters with Capt. Mike Dennis starts out at with being picked up at N.C. boating access on 4950 Fish factory Road SE. Most days Capt. Mike will already have the live bait in the live well of the Pathfinder Bay boat. Our target species will be Red Drum, Speckled Trout, Flounder we also catch croakers, bluefish, and some sharks. The areas we fish can be some of the rock outcroppings along the banks of the intercoastal waterway or the mouth of Elizabeth River. On most trips, we are fishing the creeks close to Bald Head Island, Buzzard Bay, the banks along the thoroughfare.

Light Spinning Rods and Reels will be what you will be fishing with, Capt. Mike tries to use the lightest equipment he can for the angler can experience a good fight. These are hands-on charters where you will experience inshore fishing in the backwaters of the Cape Fear River. Capt. Mike works well with the children and family charters when viewing the photo gallery you will see a lot of photos of smiling children. I have families from Bald Head Island that the children were 5 years old when they started fishing with me and now they are teenagers. They keep coming back year after year enjoying the fun we have in the backwaters catching fish. When visiting Southport just remember the Cape Fear Guide and give Capt. Mike Dennis a call to set up your guided backwater inshore charter.
