Experience guide produces a better fishing trip due to his time on the water. NC fall fishing is back even though the heavy rains from the past week had flooded the backwaters of the Cape Fear River, causing extremely high tides, and pushing all of the bait out of the back bays. Ronald Bowes from Caswell County, North Carolina gave Capt. Mike a tip that the finger mullet were thick at Carolina Beach Inlet the afternoon before.

October 9Th leaving the slip at 06:45 am Capt. Mike, Ronald, John, and Pee Wee headed toward Carolina Beach Inlet in search of finger mullet, sure enough, they were at a spot directly across from inlet.Capt.Mike put John on the wheel, got on the bow with the cast net, within just a few minutes had enough bait for the day. The ride south on the Cape Fear River to Buzzard Bay was just a little cool first thing in the morning, but the river was like glass making for a smooth ride on the Pathfinder bay boat.

Fishing started out a little slow that morning with the first two of three stops, not producing any action. This is when experience and local knowledge of the waters makes all the difference in a successful day of fishing or going home with an empty cooler. I knew my normal fishing spots were not producing, so I changed my tactics. I moved to an area that had no current and had a lot of clear water. The first cast yielded an immediate Red drum strike, with that fish hooked up, I knew this spot was going to produce fish. Experience guide produces because of the knowledge he has gained over the many years of fishing. After landing the Red drum, the other anglers baited up, casting baits all along the bank. the action started with two anglers hooking flounders at the same time. Excitement on the boat had gone from a low to high. This turned out to be a real successful inshore charter in the backwaters of the Cape Fear River.
