Fishing is what we did today,went in Muddy Slough this morning,started fishing my usual areas, fish just did not want to bite.I moved around a number of times this morning trying to locate the red drum,wind was really blowing around 15 to 20 knots out of the southwest making it tough to even anchor the boat.
I finally found a small feeder creek where the wind was not blowing quite as hard,landed a couple of keeper flounder.It was a pleasure fishing with Nathanael Mathis and his family,Isaiah you did a great job landing those flounder.

Carolina Beach Fishing - Cape Fear Guide

Carolina Beach Fishing has really been consistent over the July 4th holiday week,most charters have caught red drum,flounder,or speckle trout.I will have to give the weather a thumbs up,just great temperatures,but the heat came back yesterday.
Phil Jost’s family fished with me yesterday,really nice family,left the dock at 11:30 am returned around 4:45pm had a great time catching red drum on light tackle.
I really believe that for a family outing that Carolina Beach,N.C. should be ranked as a great place to vacation if you want to introduce your family to inshore fishing.
Charter after charter I see the smiles on the family’s faces when they hook-up with a strong running red drum I know they are experiencing the best inshore fishing they have ever had !

July 4th Speckle Trout & Red Drum

Speckle trout,red drum were caught fishing with the Cape Fear Guide on July 4th,bait used live menhaden on Carolina rigs.
Really enjoyed fishing with George Adkin’s family this morning,weather was really pleasant with lot’s of sunshine,not to hot,light winds just a great July 4th to be on the water !

Red Drum & Flounder July 3rd

Red Drum & flounder were caught this July 3rd morning by Dan Atwell,Matt Sengul and their sons fishing with the Cape Fear Guide.
Fish were caught using live bait on Carolina rigs with light spinning rods & reels,this is a great way to introduce young anglers to fishing !

NC Summer Flounder

NC summer flounder fishing can be quite productive,in the smaller creeks just off the Cape Fear River,my favorite bait is the menhaden on a fish finder rigs with a circle hook.
Anchoring up to a grass line bank with a scattered oyster shell bottom will hold flounders,all you have to do is just be a little patient. Fishing with live menhaden requires you give the flounder time to eat the bait, after the initial hit on the bait,wait let the fish do the pulling and the circle hook will set itself.
Summer flounder - Paralichtys dentalus are flat.disc-shaped fish white on one side brown,gray or dark olive color on the other side fish will have spots through out the body.

Speckle Trout Biting

Speckle trout in June,oh yea it’s hot but you just can’t be the Cape Fear Region for inshore fishing in North Carolina,creeks off the Cape Fear River are producing some speckle trout in the 3lb. range.
Tip of the day,carry plenty of water,drink often,book a inshore charter with the Cape Fear Guide and see what all the talk is about !
Speckle Trout - Cynoscion nebulosus has a long slender body with a dark bluish-silvery-gray back an silvery sides.Look for round black spots on the back,upper sides,the upper jaw has two large canine like teeth.
Speckle trout have a tender mouth,which will tear from trying to put to much force bringing the fish to the boat,play these fish with a light drag,and you will land more fish!

Red Drum Fishing Report Cape Fear River

Red drum fishing on the Cape Fear River is steadily improving with the arrival of more bait,equals more red drum.I fished yesterday on June 6, 2010 wind was blowing out of the southwest 20 - 25 knots. it was really tough just trying to get the anchor to hold.
Windy conditions made fishing tough,but with persistent casting we caught some really good size red drum.
Red drum - Sciaenops ocellatus is North Carolina’s state saltwater fish.These fish are iridescent silvery-gray overall with a beautiful copper color on the sides and back with a white belly.They normally have one black spot on the tail,but it is not unusual to see multiple spots on the tail.

Carolina Beach fishing with the Cape Fear Guide was exciting yesterday with a number of over the slot size red drum caught & released along with a few keepers for the table.
Found most of the red drum along the long grass banks in the back bay areas just off the Cape Fear River,these fish fought really hard.
Flounders were also caught,right in the same areas as the reds were holding,small live menhaden,are plentiful,just look for the diving pelicans in the Cape Fear River.
Come visit Carolina Beach,North Carolina,look up the Cape Fear Guide,and enjoy some exciting inshore fishing for red drum.

Flounder & Red Drum at Bald Head

Fished at Bald Head yesterday,rained started about 11:30 am and continued throughout the afternoon with a few hard showers.Caught flounders, red drum most of the spots I fished, yielded just just a bite or two,nothing really hot,but not bad concidering the conditions we had to fish.
Had a really nice group to fish with Mr. James D Thomas and family,you are all welcome back,hope you enjoy the fish !

Cape Fear River Speckle Trout

Fished the Cape Fear River this morning found some good size speckle trout,and flounder,Chip Clark,and Brian Gibson landed these fish while fishing with the Cape Fear Guide out of Carolina Beach,N.C.
Lot’s of laughs this morning,along with alot of beer drinking,enjoyed the charter men,come back soon.
