I fished yesterday solo, went to Southport,N.C. about two miles off the beach found big Cobia feeding on bait, had been slow trolling most of the morning only catching a few small bluefish.
I cranked in all but a couple of baits, grabbed a spinning rod tied on a float rig, hooked a live menhaden on,tossed the rig right into a huge bait ball out comes the cobia inhaling the bait, fought the fish for just about an hour on 12lb.test line.Lots of fun on spinning tackle, just had to be patient, fished with light drag, only cupping the reel spool lightly at times to pump the fish up.
Anyone interested in catching a large cobia on light tackle, the next couple of days will still be good a high pressure system is holding, conditions are ideal, now is the time to go!!
